RanellaMD Content Analysis

What is she doing great and what could be improved

Hi, this is our first Creator Analysis, an space where we’ll check some medical and health creators to comment about aspects of his content.

The idea here is to learn through examples and maybe get some ideas.

Let’s take a look to Ranella Hirsch Instagram account, a board-certified dermatologist.

There is a lot to say about an account but I’m going with the things that most catched my attention.

Analysis Summary

1. The video with 1M views

This video is about Gwyneth Paltrow, and I think two things that made this video so viral.

  1. It is about a celebrity

  2. Is short.

  3. Is simple

What can we learn?

Simple is a winner for going viral. If a 5th-grader could understand it, you're on the right track. It combines immediacy (being a 2-second video) with clarity, and her facial expressions say it all.

What can be improved?

I love how she makes the descriptions in all the posts, however, these are long and just adding a bit of visual hierarchy could i mprove a lot his readibility, let’s see.

In the left is the original and in the right I added just some spaces. You can notice how it becomes more easy to read, ordered an cleaner.

2. Answering disrespectful comments

How you answer any comment is up to you and must be aligned with who and how you are as a person, people can easily detect inauthenticity online.

Ranella's response, while humorous, carries a risk of escalation. By acknowledging the insult ("Indeed, it seems to have annoyed you..."), even in jest, she might inadvertently give it more weight than intended. This could potentially encourage further negativity from the other person.

How to answer mean comments?

The golden rule is to ignore those comments.

Buuut, sometimes this isn't easy and you want to, in that case, have in mind 4 things:

  1. Be yourself

  2. Be respectful

  3. Keep your dignity

  4. Answer in a way that avoids further escalation

If you want a “second” opinion before answering, you could use any AI, like ChatGPT or Gemini, you can write:

Someone commented this on my post:
(paste the comment)
My goal is to keep my dignity, be respectful and avoid scalation.
Here is my answer: (paste your answer)

In this way you’ll have “cold” feedback, it will make suggestions and you can assess whether you want to change something in your answer.

3. Keep it simple

A simple and clear post about the structure of the skin, but in my opinion, it's accompanied by an unnecessarily complex image.

If this appears while you’re scrolling this might trigger flashbacks to your high school biology class.

While the information provided is simple and concise, the accompanying image is overly complex, featuring details not mentioned in the video and potentially overwhelming viewers.

How would I improve this post?

I would consider a more visually engaging and simplified approach. For example, use Post-its to represent each layer of the skin, with each Post-it clearly labeled and accompanied by a concise bullet point outlining its function.
